How to Use PollutionWatch

Welcome to PollutionWatch!

Please note that PollutionWatch classifies releases, disposals and transfers differently than Environment Canada's NPRI program. These varying methods of presentation will yield different perspectives on the data. Please see Understanding the Data for a more detailed discussion.

PollutionWatch has a number of interactive tools that are designed to help you find out about releases and transfers of pollutants and emissions of greenhouse gases in your community.

• Understanding the Data: An overview of the data used on the PollutionWatch web site. This overview includes definitions and explanations about the National Pollutant Release Inventory (NPRI) and the Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reporting program (who reports, requirements for reporting, etc.), limitations of the data and trend analyses, and potential health effects of reported pollutants.
  
  
• Frequently Asked Questions: Provides answers for some common questions about PollutionWatch.
  
  
• Pollutants Summary: An overview of pollutants reported to the National Pollutant Release Inventory (NPRI) and the Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reporting Program . If a pollutant was not reported, the symbol ‘NR' appears instead of an amount.
  
  
• Health Effects Summary: An overview of pollutants reported to the National Pollutant Release Inventory (NPRI) and their known or suspected health effects. It also lists whether the pollutant was tracked by the NPRI in 2005.
